This print is beautiful. It's a commonly depicted subject, but it is very special. The composition, tonal quality, and movement are exceptional and evocative. The piece is true to it's title... breathtaking!

I have wanted this for my pro life bulletin board at my Catholic Church and I wasn’t disappointed. It is beautiful and it has so much meaning put in a picture. A picture speaks better then words and this picture says it all. Thanks
Artist's Description
Timberline Lodge, Northern Oregon, USA. A sunset is creating a fiery scene in the clouds. The clouds are on fire and the sky is hot, the Lava-like clouds cast no light on the ground but merely reflect what is going on over the horizon, outside of this scene. No sun is visible. In the mid ground are dark pine trees standing. In the foreground is the roof of a building with an unusual chimney.
This was an evening of great sunsets at Mt Hood. This picture taken in the fall of 2020 came after the West Coast Fires had burned freely for several months. I cannot but believe that the drama of colors you see in the sky here, are caused in part by all the particulate that these fires put into the atmosphere. This particular sunset phenomenon went on for at least another hour or so. I kept taking pictures until the sun no longer had the power left to enliven the sky.
About David Engstrom
My first shutterbug adventure came at the age of 22 when I took a Black and White Photography class at the Local community college. It was in this class that I began to appreciate what you could express within the medium of photographs. Especially black and white photos. I enjoyed this class immensely and received high praise from my teacher for the images I turned in. This was back before the digital age of photography. You can see some of the photographs from this class scattered among my portfolio here. Some of the images remain as they were in 1983. Some others have been remastered using modern software to be something quite all together different. I first came into contact digital imaging when I took what I thought was going to be...
